The IUCN-WCPA Mountain PA Network is a global network of mountain experts devoted to preserving and protecting our precious mountain regions of the world.

We work hard together to generate ideas, share information, devise best practices, and produce positive results. This collaborative spirit and shared vision for mountain protection echoes the timeless spirit of mountain people: hard working and fun-loving.

The Mountain Protected Areas UPDATE
(archive hosted by The Mountain Forum)

The Mountains Theme has achieved notable success because of the Mountain PA Network of almost 500 individuals, located in 67 countries. The Network is nourished by a free quarterly newsletter produced by Dr. Larry Hamilton called Mountain Protected Areas UPDATE, now available via the Internet to its registered members.

In Australia, UPDATE is forwarded and sent out to all professionals of the Australian Alps National Parks. It is also translated into Russian by the Environmental Centre Zapovedniks and sent out to 55 Zapovedniks (protected areas) and national parks. Fueled by the popularity and content of the UPDATE, several Mountain Protected Area twinnings or partnerships and joint research projects have arisen from network interactions.
