Examples of our projects include those focused on helping people in the Khumbu region of Nepal preserve native vegetation and wildlife. They also help to minimize impacts from tourists and trekkers who are drawn to the region to see beautiful Himalayan peaks, such as Ama Dablam.

Updated Reports and Information
on Mountain PA Network Projects

Here is an overview of projects and accomplishments achieved by the Mountain PA Network during 2000-2004, including an overview to our WCPA events at the Congress in Bangkok 2004.

Looking forward, we will convene three workshops (one each in 2006, 2007, and 2008) on major mountain protected area issues. Arising from each workshop will be an IUCN WCPA publication to serve as a capacity building tool for mountain protected area managers around the world.

The goal of the workshops is to formulate very practical guidance, information, and ideas for mountain managers and stakeholders.

These workshops will be small in scale (about 40 participants) and will build on existing IUCN information on mountain protected area management. They will be a valuable investment in the future protection of mountain areas of the world.

Sponsorship and support for the workshops will be necessary, so opportunities exist for organizations and groups to participate in valuable ways. More detailed information is listed in the IUCN WCPA Mountains Workshop Programme 2005-2008.

We welcome your questions and interest in these events.
