Conferences Information on Upcoming Conferences November
2005 With direct input to the World Wilderness Congress in Alaska, and the International Mountain Corridors Conference in Spain, the Mountains team has been very busy in the lead up to 2006. Both of these gatherings were very successful, and will contribute further to the conservation of mountains and improved protected area management. With IUCN WCPA’s 2005-2008 Strategic Plan focusing on large scale connectivity conservation in mountain areas, this work will continue during 2006 and beyond. Our Quito Ecuador workshop on connectivity conservation will generate a practical book on “how to manage” large scale connectivity conservation”. The book will assist managers, and is planned to be used for capacity building for connectivity conservation management. The workshop is to be held from November 14-17th 2006. Further details can be found below. 2006 IUCN WCPA Mountain Theme Group WorkshopMountain Conservation Connectivity Management Location: Quito, Ecuador, South America November 14-17th 2006 Mountain PA Network member Ms. Shaenandhoa Garcia-Rangel, is a Ph. She has created a series of Newsletter updates (see links below) for the Connectivity Conservation Management Workshop (CC2006) to held in Ecuador in 2006. One of the outputs from this conference will be development of a Connectivity Conservation Management Book ( .doc format 102k) focused on the "Lessons learned" by practitioners. The workshop's Newsletter is designed to keep conference participants and other interested individuals updated on the progress underway for this important event.

Many of our Network members were in Bangkok at the World Conservation Congress in 2004. It gave us a great opportunity to follow up on ideas and work generated by our participation at the World Parks Congress in 2003.
Prior to the World Parks Congress, our network held a multi-day workshop in the Drakensberg region of South Africa. We studied local projects and villages there, like Mnweni shown below, for viable ways to protect mountain environments while allowing benefits from them to flow "beyond boundaries".
