Mountains Network Executive Team

An experienced and dedicated team leads the Mountain PA Network, and guides their work within the IUCN framework. The Vice Chair of the Mountains Theme, Graeme Worboys of Australia, has laid out a strategic programme for the Mountains Biome Theme, and helps to coordinate and promote the extensive and far-flung work of the Mountain PA Network members. The resulting outputs help to solve mountain-related issues around the world.

Dr. Graeme Worboys of the Canberra area of Australia is the leader of our Mountain PA Network. Graeme has 30 years of experience working for the Australian National Parks system and specializes in the development of effective park management techniques.

Deputy Vice Chair Mountains Biome,
Capacity Building

Mountain expert Dr. Fausto Sarmiento of Quito, Ecuador teaches at the University of Georgia in the southeastern USA. He provides Capacity Building expertise to the Mountain PA Network to increase management effectiveness of mountain protected areas.

Senior Advisor to WCPA Secretariat and to the Mountains Biome

Senior Adviser Dr. Larry Hamilton of Vermont is a Professor Emeritus as well as the legendary Editor of our quarterly newsletter "Mountain Protected Areas UPDATE". He provides invaluable guidance, ideas, and connections to the Network.

Deputy Vice Chair Mountains Biome, Conservation

Mountain expert Mingma Norbu Sherpa of the high-altitude Khumbu region of Nepal works for the World Wildlife Fund in Washington, DC. He provides the Network with expertise on global conservation issues.

Business consultant Linda McMillan of San Francisco, California has expertise in turning mountain recreationists into effective resource stewards. She provides publicity, communications, and webmastering for the Network.
