"21st CENTURY MOUNTAIN MANAGEMENT BOOK

 

Today at the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Bangkok, a new book on the management of mountains was launched, by Andromeda Editrice of Italy. Titled Managing Mountain Protected Areas: Challenges and Responses for the 21st Century, the book contains 49 papers written by 59 mountain specialist authors from 26 countries in the 6 inhabited continents.

 

"This is a rare and special event" said Dr Cosentino, representing the publishers, Andromeda Editrice of Italy. "We are especially proud to have had the opportunity to work with the IUCN mountains team to ensure that these high quality papers could be published and made available for protected area managers and friends of mountains around the world" he said.

 

"We are proud that it covers subjects such as World Heritage mountains; continental scale conservation corridors and transboundary protected areas. It includes locations such as the Altai Knot in Russia; Condor Biosphere reserve in Ecuador; Terai Arc in Nepal; Apennines in Italy; the Australian Alps; the Drakensberg's of South Africa; Tongariro in New Zealand; Mount Elgon in Uganda; Yunnan in China and many others" Dr Cosentino said. "It is very rich in personal mountain management experience from our expert authors, and is a very valuable reference book" he said.

 

The book is 432 pages, large format and includes colour and black and white photos. It has 10 major sections, and has 49 contributions from 59 authors. The book costs 78 Euro and is available from Andromeda Editrice.
